Did Eva Carson’s forebearers own African American slaves during the Trans Atlantic Slave Trade?
According to the Clarke-Oconee Genealogical Society there may be a link.
By 1860 slaves made up nearly half the population of Clarke County. County records prove that a ‘Walter Carson’ did own 1 slave. Is Walter Carson related to Eve?
More disturbing in ancestral search of Carson’s forebearers is that the Carsons may be related to the Thrasher family – a family with much more savage slave history in Athens, Georgia.
At the start of the war 1,892 slaves and one free black lived in Athens. Their numbers increased during the war as plantation owners allowed their slaves to “hire out” to earn wages in town for the master gone to battle. The armory often hired skilled slaves during the war.

Hey as far as Eve’s family disclosing if they had slaves, what do you consider her family? I didn’t realize that long lost ancestors several generations ago were “family”. So did your famliy ever own slaves? You know slaves were owned by many of all races. Are you sure? Have you checked – or can I now claim this blog belongs to me, as I know my heritage and there are no slaves in my poor ass working lineage. I claim this blog to be mine as I am slave free and your ass is probably not slave free.

I recall that Alex Haley (author of Roots) going on Johnny Carson’s show with Carson’s family history (quickly prepared for him by the Mormons).
There were naval impressments and indentured servants among Carson’s ancestors.
Haley wanted to make the point that we all descended from slaves.

I an ancestor who owned a plantation in south carolina (welsh) and an ancestor who was a slave working on the railroad (irish). Does that make me more or less privileged? I work sixty plus hours a week to support my family and don’t see how I benefited at all from slavery.I have nothing to give for reparations except for an old ford pick up and an oppressive mortgage. Guess I’m not all that privileged. Must be my slave irish roots.

actually arab enslavement of blacks was MUCH WORSE and laster alot longer than the relatively small and insignificant transatlantic slave trade ever did..
well lets all back up a minute. yes white people of that day and time were wrong for the buying and selling of a human being, also the abuse that they endured. but it was the tribes of africa that captured other tribes and sold them to the whites. no doubt that whites then went and captured alot of the slaves but we are not all to blame. i am white and i, personally have never owned a slave in my life. i cant not help what my ancestors or anyone elses ancestors did, but we can all try to live as peacefully together as we can. i damn it is 2009. i’m saying to forget it but to learn from all their mistakes. as for killing someone because they deserve it that is for god to decided. ill pray for all of us as a nation .
